FAQS

Installation & Troubleshooting FAQ

1. What are the minimum system requirements for HomeVerse 3D?
HomeVerse 3D is designed for broad compatibility. It runs on:

Windows: 98 through Windows 11.

macOS: 10.4 (Tiger) through 14 (Sonoma).

Linux & Solaris: Most distributions.

Hardware Essentials:

Processor: 400 MHz minimum.

Memory: At least 256 MB RAM.

Graphics: A video card with up to date drivers (performance may vary on legacy hardware like the iMac DV).

Note for Windows 98 Users: The offline installer is not compatible with Windows 98. To run the software on this system, please install Java first and launch the application via the Java Web Start link.

2. Why does the splash screen disappear after only a few seconds?
This is typically caused by an issue with your graphics card configuration or outdated display drivers.

3. I received a "Fatal Error in 3D Rendering System" message. What should I do?
This error indicates that the software is unable to initialize the 3D engine, usually due to graphics card driver incompatibilities or settings.

4. Troubleshooting for Windows Users
If you encounter crashes or rendering errors, please follow these steps:

Adjust Hardware Acceleration (Windows 7 and earlier): Right-click your desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot. Ensure the Hardware Acceleration slider is set to Full.

Update Drivers: Download and install the latest OpenGL and DirectX drivers from your graphics card manufacturer (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel).

Switch to 32-bit Architecture: If you are on a 64-bit system and stability issues persist, re-run the HomeVerse 3D installer. In the installation folder selection screen, choose the 32-bit version. 32-bit drivers can sometimes offer better stability for legacy rendering engines.

5. Troubleshooting for Linux Users
Please ensure your graphics drivers are updated to the latest stable version and restart the application.

Why these optimizations work:
Structured for Scannability: Used bold headers and bullet points so users can find their operating system quickly.

Professional Terminology: Replaced "the screen used for choosing the installation folder" with "installation folder selection screen" and "64-bit counterparts" with "64-bit architecture."

Advanced Features

1. How do I create multi-story buildings?
Add Floors: Use the menu Plan > Level > Add Level to create a new floor.

Customize: Select Plan > Level > Modify Level to adjust elevation (the height from the ground), wall height, and other floor-specific properties.

2. How do I draw curved walls?
During Drawing: While using the Create Walls tool, hold the Ctrl key (Alt on macOS) when clicking the endpoint of the wall. Move your mouse to adjust the arc, then click a third time to set it. You can also press Enter to type a specific angle.

After Drawing: Double-click any existing wall and modify the "Arc extent" field in the wall modification panel.

3. How do I change the swing direction of doors and windows?
Inward/Outward: With magnetism enabled, the opening direction depends on which side of the wall you drop the object.

Left/Right: To flip the rotation axis, double-click the item in the plan or furniture list and check the "Mirror" option.

4. Can I manually set the rotation center in the 3D Aerial View?
By default, the camera rotates around the center of your entire project so you never lose your place.

Focus on Selection: In the Preferences panel, enable "Center Aerial View on selection." The camera will then rotate around whatever object you have selected in the 2D plan.

Total Control: Use Virtual Visit mode to choose any specific perspective, or adjust Wall Transparency in the 3D View settings to see inside rooms without moving the camera.

5. I imported a background image, but it's not appearing. What’s wrong?
This is usually a scaling issue. In the second step of the Background Image Wizard, ensure the value you enter matches the real-world size of the line you drew (e.g., 500 cm), not the size of the image file or your screen.

6. Why won't HomeVerse 3D let me save my file?
Permissions: Ensure you have "Write" access to the destination folder.

Windows: Check your Windows Security/Antivirus settings to ensure the app isn't being blocked from saving files.

macOS: Go to System Settings > Security & Privacy > Privacy and ensure HomeVerse 3D has "Full Disk Access."

7. The 3D view is black or showing double images. How do I fix it?
On Windows, this is often resolved by installing Java and running HomeVerse 3D using the DirectX rendering engine instead of OpenGL.

8. Why can't I print the 3D view?
This is typically a hardware limitation where your graphics card cannot generate "off-screen" 3D images. Updating your drivers may resolve this, or you can use the "Create Photo" tool to save an image and print that instead.

9. How do I speed up photo and video rendering?
High-quality rendering is CPU-intensive. To save time:

Engine: Select the Yafaray rendering engine in the options.

Hardware: Use a computer with more CPU cores or increase the memory allocated to the app.

Scene Optimization: Turn off unnecessary lights, use 3D models with fewer polygons (lower detail), and use lower-resolution textures.

Output: Reduce the final image dimensions or quality settings for draft versions.
